Ardwell Back Shore Sea Fishing Mark

This is a sloping sandy beach running out to patches of heavy kelp that make it impossible to fish after a blow.

The point to the southern end of the bay, known as The Slunk, is a flat, rocky outcrop with deep kelpy gullies. Fishing is best down and over low water, but all tides fish at night.

Small-boat anglers wishing to fish in Luce Bay can launch and retrieve their vessels from a concrete slipway here.

SPECIES
Expect to catch dogfish, coalfish, pollack, wrasse, flounders, dabs and occasional bass.

BEST BAITS
Marine worms, crabs and sandeels. Fish baits take the conger eels.

TACKLE
A variety of methods can be used at this venue. One or two-hook distance casting rigs are required for standard beachcasting, but spinning and fly-fishing are popular for bass. Deep water with heavy kelp is good for using artificial eels or for spinning a ragworm on a small ball weight for pollack and coalfish. Float fishing will catch pollack, coalfish, ballan wrasse and dogfish.
