This flat shallow, sandy beach is situated on the southern tip of the peninsular and is reached at the far end of Stanley Road,
A twenty-minute walk will take you to this low-water mark, keeping right of Hilbre Island. This produces excellent fishing for flounders on a flooding tide, with many over 2Ib with the occasional school bass.
Tidal movement can be rapid, so the area is best fished on neap tides of 23-26ft but keep a watchful eye on fast filling gullies.
SPECIES
Flounders are plentiful from April through to October. School bass will show in rougher conditions with westerly winds.
BEST BAITS
Lugworms and ragworms work well. Lug is plentiful and can be dug here before fishing. Crab fishes well when the tide is flooding over the gullies. Baits tipped with mackerel can produce the bigger flounders.
TACKLE
Use a standard or lightweight bass rod, 3-5oz weights with one or two-hook flappers, with long snoods and size 1 hooks. Keep it simple and travel light because you are always on the move.
GETTING THERE
Turn off the M53 at junction 2 and follow the A553 signs to Hoylake. Turn right at the roundabout in Hoylake and after 300 yards go left into Stanley Road. Drive to the end of the road and park as near as you can to the beach.
