A window in the weather allowed the Poole, Dorset-based boat ‘Silver Spray’, skippered by Andy Cumming, to get off her moorings to explore the famous plaice fishing on the Shambles Bank, which lies west towards Weymouth.
The trip was successful with eight plaice coming aboard, all caught on short wishbone traces rigged with attractor beads and spoons, and size 2/0 hooks baited with ragworm fished over mussel beds close to Portland Bill.
One of the more notable fish was Colin Jones’ 3lb-plus plaice that had spots on both sides.
