At the western end of the Hythe ranges, this is a promenade wall around a redoubt.
It fishes best on a rising tide and after high. Dymchurch prom to the west offers similar fishing. There is limited space at high tide if the range is closed. Access to the east side of the wall and ranges is limited, with firing times on a notice adjacent to the fence. It fishes well in daylight when nearby beaches have clear water, but is not so good at night when rough.

SPECIES

Cod and codling from September until April, as well as whiting, dogfish, pouting, flounder and the odd Dover sole. Summer species include bass, sole, smoothhound and eels.

BEST BAITS

Peeler crabs in summer and early autumn, with lugworms and squid in midwinter. Black lug can be dug or pumped during spring tides. Shellfish are washed up and can produce lots of fish after a storm.

TACKLE

Distance can be an essential and clipped multi-hook rigs catch best. The tide runs west to east at high with a breakout lead sufficient. Normal beachcasting tackle 15lb line is sufficient, but there are a number of small broken groynes and rocks at the base of the wall so the retrieve needs to be fast and positive.

GETTING THERE

On the A259 between Dymchurch and Hythe, there is a high wall adjacent to road after Dymchurch holiday village. There is limited roadside parking near a dangerous bend.
