Skipper Joe Lynch is a former Naval Officer with 23 year’s experience, and Sea Angling for the last 12 years.
I am licensed and insured for 12 passengers, for whom there is ample space, but I do not recommend more than 6 - 7 when Shark fishing, to avoid line tangles. I do not cater for individual seats, just full boat charters.
I operate all year round (weather permitting!) from Salve Marine Marina, in the middle of Crosshaven, which is just inside the entrance to Cork Harbour, and fish on the wrecks and reefs from West of the Old Head of Kinsale to east of Ballycotton Bay, up to 40 miles offshore. (map) I offer a free collection / delivery service to and from the airport or ferry Terminal, in my jeep (6 passengers) and the guesthouse will send a car also for bigger parties. Crosshaven is 10 minutes from the ferry Terminal and 20 minutes from Cork Airport.
Typical species caught
Offshore : Mackerel, Pollock, Conger, Ling, Coalfish, Cod, Whiting, Haddock, Pouting, Wrasse, Blue Shark (up to 100 Lbs)
Inshore : Mackerel, Conger, Codling, Blonde and Thornback Ray, Pollock, Whiting, Coalfish, Gurnard, Plaice, Dabs, Scad.
As for bait, Mackerel (frozen or preferably fresh) will catch any fish Species available, but I can get ragworm, crab squid etc. if required, though I need some notice.
Shark fishing generally starts about mid-June, when the water temp is over 14 C, and there is a good supply of fresh mackerel, and continues up to about late-September. The main shark species caught regularly in these waters is the Blue Shark, which can reach weights of up to 150 Lbs, but more usually are between 50 and 100 Lbs.
A Live bait well is there to keep your bait in good condition, and the rods and reels are all top quality Daiwa, including Daiwa PLB 20, Daiwa PLB 50 and Team Daiwa 3050R Rods, with Daiwa SeaLine 30SH, and SHV40 reels on the lighter rods and SeaLine 300H, 400H, and 600H Reels for the heavy going. I always carry a comprehensive range of tackle, to suit most conditions.
The Rod table and Bait board is located centrally over the live well, Please note, cutting bait on my white GRP gunwales is a walk-home offence!
A Vacuum packer is available to get your catch home in prime condition.
Wreck Hunter is a new custom built Wildcat 107 Catamaran from Safehaven Marine, Cobh \. She has twin 370Hp Yanmar Diesels (up to 27.5 knots max!), a huge amount of rail and deck space, and a wide band of economic hull speeds. She has superb Sea keeping qualities, as the Cat hull form gives impressive stability, deck space, and speed, with no slamming, and very little spray, even at speed, due to the symmetric twin hull design. Angling on the Drift, and at Anchor, you will not believe how comfortable the boat is to fish from.
The Toilet / Shower facilities are accessed directly from after deck, for convenience. Long side curtains can be slid out over the after deck, to protect the angler from the variable Irish weather. There is more than 8 feet of space at the rails for each of the 12 anglers.
