Greg Hawker found a handful of medium-sized fish to test this boat rod out and he said: “Although this rod did all I asked of it, I couldn’t help thinking it was a bit bulky in comparison to other rods in its class. Even so, the rod was light enough to hold, with the comfortably shaped EVA foregrip helping to give it the feel-good factor.
“I thought the guides were a bit bulky, but they are of good quality and I’m sure will be very durable and will pass muster even after a lot of use. My only complaint is that the spigot fitting seemed fairly sloppy, allowing the tip section to spin slightly.”
Skipper Dave Roberts adds: This is a modern, low diameter rod, which has a fast taper action.
It has a matt black finish and comfortable EVA grips. It boasts Fuji guides throughout and has an up-locking reel seat.
The 20lb and 30lb models come in two versions – short butt/long tip or two equal length sections.
All are supplied in a smart carry bag with rod bands and a cleaning cloth.
This is just one of the new Ugly Stik range, and from what I have seen they are a great improvement on the old models.
For the price, this range of rods is well worth a look.
